Season's greetings, Abbotsford!
Nothing quite matches the holiday season when it comes to the whole community getting together in the spirit of joy and unity.
This is the time of year when family and friends gather to share a meal and exchange gifts, but more importantly, to enjoy each other’s company. There are plenty of places to go to experience holiday cheer right here in Abbotsford this season, and you might even see us at some events around town.
A highlight of Christmas in Abbotsford is the Winter Jubilee, taking place in our vibrant, historic downtown on Nov. 23. It’s an event that many Abbotsford families have been looking forward to all year long and the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association always puts on a great party with plenty of food, fun and activities for the whole family. Remember to stick around for the tree lighting grand finale. That’s Mayor Siemens’ favourite part of Winter Jubilee and he’s honoured to be participating in it once again.
While you are enjoying all of the entertainment and festivities, we encourage you to check out all of our shops and restaurants, and support these small businesses that are so important to our local character and our local economy. Our historic downtown appears in a lot of Hallmark Christmas movies that are actually filmed in the summer, but we get to enjoy the real thing.
Members of Council will also be attending the opening of the three-day Very Merry Mango Market at the AgRec Centre (32470 Haida Dr.) on Nov. 29, and the Salvation Army’s Santa Shuffle fun run in Mill Lake Park on Dec. 7. Both events are raising money to support the most vulnerable members of our community.
These are only a few examples of local events happening this season. As the cultural and economic hub of the Fraser Valley there is always a lot going on and plenty to do in our community. Visit the Go Abbotsford online event calendar to discover more festive activities taking place over the holidays.
No matter how you celebrate, you don’t have to travel far to find festive fun in Abbotsford.
