Prepare in June – Beat the Heat Preparedness

Identify those most at risk when the heat hits. Although most people are able to plan and prepare for the heat, some may not recognize their risk.  

  • Older adults (over 55)  
  • People who live alone or are socially isolated
  • People with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease
  • People with mental illness or disability 
  • People with substance use disorders
  • People who work in hot environments
  • People who are pregnant
  • Infants and small children
  • People with disabilities or mobility concerns

Evaluate if you can safely stay at home

People who are susceptible to heat, risk increases when indoor temperatures reach 26 degrees celsius and outside temperatures of 31 degrees celsius. if you are unable to cool your home to more comfortable temperatures, make a plan to stay elsewhere.
