Parks & Playgrounds

November 8 - Please note the following parks will be closed for maintenance:

McMillan Skate Park - construction will begin on November 4, 2024 for approximately 8 weeks
Shore Playground will be closed effective Oct 30 for approximately 2-3 weeks for replacement of playground equipment
The main entrance gate to the Friendship Gardens will be closed from the evening of Friday, November 8, until the morning of Tuesday, November 12 due to construction. Access to the gardens will still be available through the East Gate for UFV classes but limited access to all other areas of the gardens.

The City of Abbotsford fosters many green spaces throughout its residential neighbourhoods.

Parks join neighbourhoods together and provide meeting places for young and old alike. Easy access to amenities like trails, restrooms and picnic facilities make Abbotsford’s urban green spaces a destination for active outdoor exploration.

The City of Abbotsford operates and maintains 72 playgrounds in our community.

New playground designs address inclusive play and serve children of all abilities. Replacing the old pea gravel surfacing with “wood carpet” not only provides better fall protection, but also makes our playgrounds wheelchair accessible. New protective fencing and asphalt pathways have been added at several of the playgrounds (where needed) to further enhance and provide better accessibility.

In 2003, a Playground Replacement Program was put in place and, with the ongoing support from the Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Sumas, the City has been able to replace 12 playgrounds since that time.

In 2013, the City was awarded a Federal Government Matching Infrastructure Grant to replace 10 of its aging playgrounds. This funding has enabled the City to replace the last of its non-CSA compliant playgrounds. Playground structures in Larch, Southern, Glenridge, Charlotte, Everett, Juniper, Renton, Fairfield, Uplands and Jubilee Park were replaced, as well as upgrades to surrounding infrastructure were completed in March 2014.
Public Spray and Splash Pads are located at:
- Mill Lake Park - 2310 Emerson Street
  Adjacent to Centennial Outdoor Pool and includes a playground and picnic shelter with water & power
  
  The spray park is operational from the May long weekend (or earlier, weather dependent) until the September long weekend, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm
- Shadbolt Park - 36086 Shadbolt Avenue
  Splash pad adjacent to green space
  
  Operational from the May long weekend (or earlier, weather dependent) until September long weekend, 11:00 am - 8:00 pm
- Spud Murphy Park - 32285 Hillcrest Avenue
  Splash pad adjacent to playground

The International Friendship Garden is located at 32320 George Ferguson Way (North side of Clearbrook Library)

The facility includes:
- a Cultural Gateway and International Friendship Garden, hard surfaced plaza and patio areas and a water fall;
- the Cultural Gateway which is represented by the canopy and the Pathway of Nations “Welcome” pavers;
- a unique space to celebrate the many diverse cultures in our community;
- a destination location to enjoy a tranquil area and the outdoors in a beautiful setting;
- opportunity to contribute towards plantings, purchase of a memorial bench or cultural amenities.
