This long weekend we’re marking the start of summer in Abbotsford with our annual Canada Day celebration at Exhibition Park.
As a City Council we love events that bring the community together in the spirit of joy and unity and we’re excited to have everyone joining us on Monday as we celebrate our country and our community.
This year the City of Abbotsford has partnered with Tourism Abbotsford to produce the day’s activities and we’ve got a day-long program of all-ages fun for everyone to enjoy.
The festivities start with a parade along South Fraser Way and Trethewey Street, and the afternoon festival at Exhibition Park will include food trucks, live performances and lots of family fun. And if the weather cooperates, we’ll be treated to an amazing evening fireworks display from Celebration Fireworks! You can find more information about what you can expect from the fun-filled day, as well as maps of the festival grounds and the parade route, by visiting tourismabbotsford.ca/canada-day.
The organizers did a great job and have a lot planned, but the summer celebrations don’t stop there. Canada Day is also the unofficial kick-off of our summer festival season, with events like Berry Fest, Agrifair and the Abbotsford International Airshow all fast approaching. As the cultural and economic hub of the Fraser Valley there’s always so much happening in our community. To stay on top of the all of the goings-on, big and small this summer and year-round, check out our community one-stop event hub goabbotsford.ca. It’s an excellent resource to look up your favourite upcoming events and maybe even discover some new ones.
Canada Day may be a celebration of all things Canadian, but it’s also a great opportunity to connect with family and friends and reflect on how fortunate we all are to call Canada and Abbotsford home. Much like Canada itself, Abbotsford is vibrant and diverse, and people come here from all over in search of opportunity and place to build a life and a family.
And that is certainly something worth celebrating.
