A Water Turn On / Off is a City service to turn on or shut off the water supply to your property at the meter. This is done to find the source of a water leak, do repairs or renovation work that affects plumbing systems.
Who is responsible:
- Residential users: The City owns the water at the property line, including the meter setter, water meter and AMI unit (if applicable) inside the meter box.
- Commercial users: The City generally owns the water meter, meter setter and AMI unit (if applicable) only. However, in some cases, the City may own the service line as well.
- The City is responsible for operating the City water valve including the turn on/off of water supply service to the property. (Waterworks Bylaw 2665-2017)
- If the leak stops when the City water valve in the meter box is turned off, the leak is deemed to be on the property owner’s side. The City does not make repairs on the property owners’ side.
