The City of Abbotsford is pleased to once again partner with the Vancouver Foundation and Abbotsford Community Foundation to offer grants in support of small-scale community projects, through the Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program. Through the program, $20,000 in grants will be awarded to Abbotsford residents for neighbourhood activities, events and initiatives that engage neighbours and foster a greater sense of community connectivity.
Aimed at encouraging residents to take part in building and strengthening the community, grants of up to $1000 will be awarded to help bring community projects to life. The successful projects will be selected by the Neighbourhood Small Grants Residents Committee based on the following categories:
- Neighbourhood Connection: Projects that enhance community connections, including activities like block parties, sport and culture events or activities and workshops.
- Neighbourhood Beautification: Projects with the goal of refreshing or making a public space more inviting, including initiatives like park or neighbourhood clean-ups, fence painting, gardening and sign refurbishing.
- Neighbourhood Safety: Projects that improve safety of the neighbourhood environment, including activities like landscaping for visibility and surveillance, street lighting, graffiti clean-up and block watch activities.
One of Council’s key priorities is to foster an inclusive and connected community by supporting activities that connect residents and providing opportunities for all community members to contribute to the vitality and social cohesion of the City. Recipients of last year’s grants focused their initiatives on engaging residents, connecting neighbours and building stronger community relations, and included a variety of projects such as youth book clubs, a summer fair and a free fitness training program.
All Abbotsford residents and students are eligible to apply for the grant, provided their community project is held in Abbotsford, inclusive and free to attend. Grant applications are being accepted now until April 15. To apply for a grant or to join the NSG Residents Committee, visit www.abbotsford.ca/grants.
