July 29, 2026 - Cooper Hill Park opening
Fraser, Ivy and Sammy helped Mayor Siemens and Polygon Homes senior vice president Ryan Lucy with the ceremonial ribbon cutting marking the official opening of Cooper Hill Park.
July 25, 2026 - Gilmour Park opening
Deputy Mayor Loewen and Councillor Barkman hold the ribbon while nine-year-old Luxton slides through it to officially mark the opening of Gilmour Park. Councillors Gibson and Sidhu also took part in the celebration.
July 18, 2026 - Abbotsford Whalers’ Regional Swim Meet
Mayor Siemens (seen here with Whalers president Ryan Carey, VP Jonathan Fowler and Councillor Driessen) helped open the weekend-long swimming competition featuring hundreds of athletes from across the Fraser Valley.

Mayor Siemens jumped from 10,000 feet for Cyrus Centre’s annual Leap of Faith skydiving fundraiser. Proceeds from the event benefitted Home At Last, Cyrus Centre’s transitional housing program for youths aged 16 to 24.

Councillor Driessen took to the stage with Councillors Chahal, Ross and Sidhu to congratulate the Virsa Foundation on 10 years of celebrating Punjabi culture in Abbotsford.

Chase, 4, and Nathaniel, 8, helped Mayor Siemens and Rodney MacPherson from sponsorship partner Saputo with a ceremonial button pushing to launch the new Crossley Park splash pad. Councillors Barkman, Chahal, Driessen, Gibson, Ross and Sidhu also joined in the festivities.
June 18, 2026 - Abbotsford Hospice and Grief Support Society Scholarship Awards Ceremony

June 18, 2026 - 55+ Learning Plus presentation
Mayor Siemens dropped by the Abbotsford Recreation Centre’s 55+ Learning Plus program to give a presentation on the different levels of government and take questions from the attendees.

May 26, 2026 - Climate Action Award presentation
Recreation Facilities Association of BC (RFABC) president Jay Young and Scott Stewart from Polar Engineering presented Mayor Siemens and City staff with the 2026 RFABC-Polar Engineering Climate Action Award for the Abbotsford Recreation Centre’s heat recovery and optimization (HeRO) project.
May 24, 2026 - Run for Water
Mayor Siemens ran in the 10K at this year’s Run for Water, while Councillors Gibson and Loewen (not pictured) ran the 5K and cheered from the sidelines, respectively. Afterwards the Mayor thanked attendees for participating and helped present the awards to the top finishers.
May 23, 2026 - West Railway Plaza opening
Deputy Mayor Loewen was joined by Councillors Barkman, Driessen, Gibson and members of the community as he and Abbotsford Downtown Business Association executive director Ryan Leonhard cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open West Railway Plaza in downtown Abbotsford.

Mayor Siemens, BC Minister of Agriculture and Food Lana Popham, EggSolutions Vanderpol’s president Mike Vanderpol, P&H president Scott Brookshaw and BC Milk Marketing Board director Derek Janzen broke ground on a new EggSolutions Vanderpol’s processing facility.

UFV students were at City Hall to present creative solutions to local issues at the 17th CityStudio Hubbub. Mayor Siemens was one of the judges and announced this event’s big winners, “Nightmare on Every Street,” who took home both the Team Award and People’s Choice Award for their project on pest management in local cemeteries.

Deputy Mayor Driessen and Councillor Sidhu attended this year’s memorial vigil for Sukhvinder Kaur Punia, Amarjit Kaur Bal and Sarabjit Kaur Sidhu, who died when their work van crashed in 2007.

This year Yale Secondary School’s Live to Give campaign raised $16,000 for Canuck Place. Mayor Siemens, school board chair Stan Petersen and superintendent Nathan Ngieng attended the celebration, where student MCs Clara Thiessen, Kareena Sandhu and Hannah Zimmerman presented a cheque to Chantelle Bowles, Canuck Place senior officer, major gifts.

During their trip to Ottawa, Mayor Siemens, BC Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Minister Greene, and Semá:th First Nation Chief Silver met with federal Housing and Infrastructure Minister Robertson and federal Emergency Management and Community Resilience Minister Olszewski to discuss the impact of the December 2025 flood and the need for long-term flood mitigation funding.

During his trip to Ottawa, Mayor Siemens met with Abbotsford—South Langley MP Gill in the House of Commons.

During their trip to Ottawa, Mayor Siemens, BC Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Minister Greene, and Semá:th First Nation Chief Silver took part in a press conference on flooding in Abbotsford, stressing that critical flood-mitigation measures are required to safeguard our communities, economy, trade and energy infrastructure, and provincial food security.

A memorial was held outside City Hall for the National Day of Mourning honouring workers injured or killed on the job. Mayor Siemens emceed the ceremony, which recognized the 146 workers in BC who lost their lives due to workplace incidents in 2024. The event also included speakers who shared stories about the importance of workplace safety.
